Bryon Pierson, St. Louis PD Mugshot
A court case that has gripped the St. Louis Startup Ecosystem since the fall of 2024 is over. On October 24th of that year EDURain CEO Bryon Pierson Jr. assaulted a fellow entrepreneur, and a St. Louis Police Officer who responded to the incident, at a Founders Lounge event at the WXYZ bar in the Aloft Hotel in St. Louis’s Cortex district. Pierson had been banned from the weekly gathering for several months at the time. Bizblip was in the courtroom today to follow the proceedings. SIS vs. SES in Missouri
Suspended Imposition of Sentence (SIS): When you receive an SIS, the court accepts your guilty plea but doesn’t impose a sentence. You’re placed on probation, and if you successfully complete it, you will have no conviction on your record. Eng & Woods
Suspended Execution of Sentence (SES): With an SES, you plead guilty and receive an immediate conviction. The court imposes a sentence (like jail time) but suspends its execution, placing you on probation instead. The conviction permanently appears on your record even after successfully completing probation.
Repercussions of Having an SIS:
Positive aspects:
- If you successfully complete probation, no conviction appears on your record, allowing you to continue functioning as a productive member of society without difficulty securing loans, jobs, or housing that require background checks.
Risks:
- If you violate probation terms, the judge may revoke your SIS and impose any sentence within the statutory range for your offense, and you will then receive a conviction on your record.
- While an SIS is not considered a conviction if completed successfully, it can be used against you in subsequent criminal proceedings as a prior offense.
