A small St. Louis systems design and development firm has filed for a patent for a technology to help stop the spread of germs at the gas pump, grocery store and other places where people have to touch things in public.
“We’re still in the early stage of development” working towards a proof of concept, International Proof Systems CEO Rachel Hankerson told the 4thEst8. “Protected Touch is similar to a glove (in that it forms a barrier), but it is not a glove.”
Hankerson says her company made masks and other PPE in response to the Covid 19 pandemic, but that got them thinking about persistent problems that people are going to encounter in this pandemic environment. IPS was founded in 2013 with the goal of applying new technology to antiquated processes and systems. Its first product, which Hankerson says is ready for a Beta partner, is a smart license plate system.
“We are not right now connected to a live database,” Hankerson said of her Proof Smart Tags license plate system, which replaces the adhesive tag currently on license plates with an embedded chip. The chip connects to the Proof Smart system, which is to be connected to state vehicle registration data bases as well as insurance company data bases. “So when individuals renew registration, or auto insurance, from that system – the system will communicate with the license plate that is associated with that registration, and an illuminated image that looks exactly like an adhesive tag will validate that the individual is registered as well as insured in good standing with their state.”
IPS prospective customers are state governments that handle vehicle registration and require insurance, public and private insurance companies, as well as state law enforcement.
“Even a few countries have expressed interest,” Hankerson said. “A gentleman from Dubai came to meet me because he was interested in this technology. Hong Kong, Jordan, London… those are a few governments outside of the U.S. That have expressed interest.”
