“We’ve been getting a lot of interest in cricket here domestically, but also internationally,” SportsTrace CEO Max Montrey told the 4thEst8. “Shreyansh Mohta has deep experience in cricket, used to play, and has an incredible network.”
This week SportsTrace hired Mohta as Business Development Lead of Cricket, a part-time position that opens up India for the startup. The company launched it’s app in Beta this spring. It uses AI and user generated video to help athletes from a number of sports quickly improve their performance. Montrey says they’ve learned a lot from user feedback since launching the Beta.
“What we learned is that, yes, the data behind what we do is valuable, but really… if you are an athlete, or if you are a coach, you need something that’s very straightforward, to be able to point you in the direction to improve as quickly as possible because those careers are short,” he said, adding that the feedback prompted changes to the product. “We simplified some functionality. We created a really cool new feature for comparing swings, pitches, hits, throws – any activity you have in sport – where you can overlay one on top of the other and see the differences.”
The startup launched in January, 2020 in Seattle and became a Missouri company when it won the Codefi / 1ST50K competition, landing $50K but requiring a founder to move to Cape Girardeau, Mo. It has two full time employees, and now two part time.
The startup has been a darling of several accelerators, incubators and pitch competitions, taking 1st just two weeks ago in the inaugural Aves Lair pitch night. It’s also taken part in the Washington Technology Industry Association’s Founder Cohort Program, GamePlanU, Sports Tech Startup Networking Group, and the College of Staten Island tech incubator.
Montrey says he’s also been working with business majors at Southeast Missouri State University, through which this week’s hiring of a business development lead in India was developed.
