Prior to landing today’s $10M “Series A” round, Balto joined Juristat in flooding St. Louis area job boards with “help wanted” ads. Headquartered in T-Rex, if it fills all those jobs, Balto will likely need to find a new home – unless they stick with a Covid-era ‘work from home’ model. The 4thEst8 talked with CEO Marc Bernstein about it.

“The most important positions Balto can fill are product and data science,” CEO Marc Bernstein told the 4thEst8. “We’re going to need to invest in the most advance real-time call guidance on the planet.”
Balto’s software uses AI to help call-center agents. It monitors their phone conversations with customers, and pops useful and pertinent information up on the screen so the agent can more quickly address the problem at hand.
This morning’s $10M ‘Series A’ round was led by Sierra Ventures. Participants include Jump Capital, OCA Ventures, Cultivation Capital and others. According to Bernstein, that money will fuel expanding from 45 to more than 100 employees, and make improvements to the software. Balto previously raised $4.2M in a pair of seed rounds, plus $50K from the Arch Grant in 2018.
Prior to Covid, word on the street was that Balto was shopping around Downtown St. Louis, looking for a bigger space. Currently headquartered in T-Rex, and (like many companies) having most all employees work from home, it isn’t clear that T-Rex could remain home for Balto… certainly not, if all 100 plus employees were showing up at a post-Covid office space.
