Harrisonville, MO startup Crosstalk LLC just landed a $256,000 Phase I STTR grant from the National Science Foundation.

The startup is investigating a new reconfigurable computing platform capable of performing a variety of AI (machine learning) tasks in a distributed and parallel manner for better performance and lower cost. The end products, if successful, will be AI accelerator chips that can be integrated into accelerator cards or as co-processors for both servers and in edge computing… particularly cloud computing.

This grant covers testing and development of a prototype that Crosstalk says should be at least an order of magnitude improvement over more conventional graphics processing unit based approaches.

The University of Missouri, Kansas City is the research institution associated with the grant.

Technical Manager for Crosstalk and Principal Investigator for the grant, Arif Iqbal declined a request for an interview for this story.
