Engineering services company, Kalscott Engineering Inc. of Lawrence, Kansas just landed a Phase 1 SBIR grant from the Department of Defense, Air Force, for $49,754.00 to develop a microwave technology that can disrupt radar-guided missiles and drone swarms that threaten aerial vehicles in combat situations.

The Air Force is calling for a device that emits high power microwaves, has its own electrical power source, and is capable of high repetition rates and multiple peaks per cycle. They also want versions of this technology to be capable of beaming wireless power.

Dun & Bradstreet reports that Kalscott is headquartered in Lawrence, KS, has five full time employees, was founded in 2002 and generates $500,000 in sales of its engineering services. According to the company’s website, the small firm has brought in millions in grants and contracts from the U.S. military since its founding.
