Phone blocker FynCom just hired it’s third full-time employee – a mobile money and telecom veteran in Brazil that CEO Adrian Garcia tells the 4thEst8 is a “unicorn.”

Adrian Garcia, CEO, Fyncom (KarmaCall)

“He started three mobile money and telecom companies from 2003 to 2016, and sold each one,” Garcia said of incoming ‘Chief Revenue Officer Nico Torteli. “Today we also made our 20,000th block payout, which is super awesome.”

The three person startup has an Android app called KarmaCall that blocks phone spammers and robocalls – with a cryptocurrency twist. If the caller and receiver have the app and the caller puts up a micro-payment of Nano the call will get through. If the receiver hangs up quickly or rejects the call they keep the micro-payment for their inconvenience. FynCom takes a small cut for brokering the deal.

The company launched a crowdfunding round seeking $700,000 in early March and at the time of this publication raised $5,150 toward that goal. The Anaheim, California based company pitched to 1 Million Cups, St. Louis, in February. Garcia says the money will go to building out the app for the Apple platform, and building out the IT and sales team. So far, the venture has been bootstrapped from founder savings and credit cards. KarmaCall is on 22,000 phones in Brasil, although Garcia is trying to get greater penetration in the United States.
