Mighty Cricket CEO Sarah Schlafly took home this evenings $500 prize at the Venture Cafe – St. Louis Pitch Competition.

Mighty Cricket protein chocolate bars

“I think I am going to invest it into scaling up my chocolate bars, which we just launched on the market and we already have four stores that we’re getting them into,” she told the 4thEst8. “The Alpine Shop, Momentum Cycles, The Annex Coffee and Foods, and AO&CO Market and Cafe.”

Why cricket?

A pound of cricket protein takes a fraction of the water and other natural resources to make when compared with cow protein. An equivalent mass of crickets emits far less greenhouse gas than a cow as well. The carbon footprint is tiny! Mighty Cricket launched its first products in the fall of 2018. At first Schlafly moved protein powders, flours and oatmeals – all fortified with cricket protein – via online sales.

Schlafly first told the 4thEst8 about her plans to get on retail shelves in May, 2020 in a Ringleader segment. (Video linked, below).

The other companies in the competition are Kanopi and Sport Dojo, both are on the 4thEst8 ‘coming soon’ hit list.
