Product Innovation and Engineering, or PINE, in St. James, MO landed a $139,880 Phase I SBIR grant from the Navy (U.S. DOD).
This project is about using machine learning techniques to develop a real–time defect detection system for metal additive manufacturing processes. The proposed system would use data from the CAM system and process monitoring data to detect any anomalies, and would automate the specimen preparation and analysis process.
The engineering firm was founded in 2002, and leans heavily into engineering consulting work around prototype machine development, process and parameter development, CAM and path planning as well as modeling and simulation. The firm staffs with a lot of talent cross pollination from nearby Missouri S&T. Having brought in millions in grants over the last couple decades, this firm is not a tech startup — but bizblip likes what they’re doing and they’re very near the family farm that editor Paul Riat lived on in his youth, outside Vienna, MO.
