Airy, a startup founded earlier this year by students at Washington University in St. Louis, has launched its voice-based smart journal app on the iOS App Store. The app, which allows users to create photo-rich journal entries via voice commands, aims to make journaling easier and more accessible.
“As a college student, I’ve been journaling for around four years, but I haven’t found a solution that I could stick to since I’m so busy,” CEO Steven Shuhan Zhang told bizblip. “Airy allows me to create everything automatically without having to spend too much energy. It allows me to capture the moments and relive them anytime I want.”
What sets Airy apart is its use of AI technology to summarize voice entries into cohesive journal entries, complete with relevant images, activities, songs, and even human contacts from the user’s day. “Instead of having you write it, you can just simply talk about it, and we’ll handle the rest,” Zhang explained. Beyond just journaling, Airy plans to venture into mental health by integrating an “AI buddy” or “AI therapist” that can provide personalized mental health advice and guidance based on the user’s journal entries.
Airy, which currently has a team of students working full-time for the summer, has been self-funded and funded through pitch competitions at the university, totaling between $1,000 and $2,000. The company plans to charge users for the AI mental health features while keeping the basic journaling functionality free. Airy plans on completing their web app in around a month, paving way for users on other platforms to access the services.
