AskSAMIE, a Kansas City-based startup, has launched a new grant program in partnership with Health Forward Foundation, Jewish Family Services, and the Community Capital Foundation. The program offers up to $1,500 worth of adaptive equipment and services to qualified individuals in the Kansas City area, aiming to improve health outcomes and quality of life for older adults aging in place.

“This partnership allows us to say ‘yes’ more often to those in need, and serves as a demonstration project for future programs,” CEO Brandy Archie told bizblip. “We hope to show others how they can set up similar initiatives using AskSAMIE as the backbone, ultimately decreasing healthcare costs overall.”
AskSAMIE helps people obtain appropriate adaptive equipment, resources, and services to age well in their homes. The company uses technology to recommend solutions and provide virtual home assessments, while also offering in-person services through occupational therapists.
The startup has mainly been bootstrapped, and has also raised approximately $175,000 through non-dilutive grants, pitch competitions, and partnerships. AskSAMIE has also benefited from in-kind donations, advertising and other services.
