Data startup Abide Assay, in efforts to improve product-market fit, is shifting focus from dispensaries to cannabis brands and governmental agencies — while maintaining a consumer information service as the cornerstone of its data-analytic product.
“We provide a platform that cannabis brands have never had before,” had Carpenter, CEO of Abide Assay, told bizblip. “We give them the opportunity to advertise, get in front of eyes outside of the individual store, and have customers shop on chemical profiles and medical benefits. We are also a platform for them to advertise, giving them the opportunity to educate consumers on why their products are beneficial.”
Abide Assay is building on the work of Dr. Dustin Sulak D.O. (of healer.com) who is studying the effects of specific compounds, and Abide is putting in place a post-consumption survey system to pull in more data from patients about their experience.
The platform allows cannabis consumers to filter products based on desired compounds, cannabinoids, and terpenes in order to find the product that is right for them. The branded products Carpenter is onboarding now have all been third-party lab tested, with Certificates of Analysis and known chemical compositions. In addition to monthly subscriptions from consumers, Abide Assay also provides a brand awareness platform which cannot be found on traditional social media outlets. In addition, Carpenter says his service is beneficial to the states where cannabis is legal because his platform keeps things above board so they can get all the tax money they are due.
“There is illicit product entering the commercial market,” he said. Abide Assay is a check on that because “we are only listing things that are in the seed-to-sale system, and we are integrated with that.”
After getting some traction at dispensaries in St. Louis and Oklahoma, Carpenter plans to expand to the Chicago market with a pop–up. The pop–up will also allow for customers to rate their experience, providing more data. Founded in St. Louis in Feb. 2021, Carpenter is the startups only full time employee.
