The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awarded David Carroll Ph.D. its 2021 a Plasmadynamics and Lasers award.
“These are peers in the plasmadynamics and lasers technical area,” the CEO of CU Aerospace in Champagne, Il. told the 4thEst8. “I’ve been honored and lucky to work with so many great colleagues. This is not an award one typically receives thier own merit. It’s sort of a collective award from the work of a great team. It’s definitely something I’m extremely proud of.”
Carroll is the 29th recipient of the award since its inception. The AIAA is the largest trade group for aerospace in the U.S.
Founded in May of 1998 CU Aerospace is headquartered in Champaign, Il. The company has 17 full time employees with a reported $3 million in annual revenue. The engineering company has brought in scores of SBIR grants for many millions of dollars helping them develop technologies for which they hold more than a dozen patents.
Their most recent grant, awarded in Dec. 2020, is a Phase I STTR for $149,996 from the U.S. Air Force to design a quieter rotor blade. That grant is in partnership with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
