“Last night we hosted a giant rooftop party to welcome all the new ‘Baltonians'” Balto CEO Marc Bernstein told the 4thEst8. “We are going to continue to be 100% ‘office optional’… and if everyone has a choice, we need to make it really enticing in order to bring people in.”
The 22,000 square foot headquarters at 1227 Washington Ave. is down the street from T-Rex, where Balto has called home since it got started in January 2017. The new space follows a hiring spree that started after the company secured a $10 million Series A in the fall of 2020. (see 4thEst8 story, below). In that time the company has grown from 45 full time employees to more than 100, and is still hiring.
“This is a place built for the team getting to know each other,” Bernstein said. “There’s a handful of places in St. Louis that can do that. We wanted to be really selective to find one that we thought was just awesome.”
Balto’s software uses AI to help call-center agents. It monitors their phone conversations with customers, and pops useful and pertinent information up on their screen so the agent can more quickly address the problem at hand.
Last year’s $10M Series A was led by Sierra Ventures, with participants including Jump Capital, OCA Ventures and Cultivation Capital. The startup landed two prior seed rounds: one in 2018 for $1.2M and another in 2019 for $3M. The company also landed an Arch Grant in 2018.
