For Womanhood is a safety app, aimed at combating intimate partner violence among college students.

“We’re doing this in April. The idea is to get everyone’s attention to share what we’re doing, to build excitement,” CEO Cherise Brookes told bizblip. “At the same time, we will basically begin Beta testing in May with these people who would sign up at the event.”

The event scheduled for April 11th from 5-7pm at the Skandalaris Center, will serve as both an advertising showcase and the initiation of the beta testing process for For Womanhood’s app.

For Womanhood, founded in February 2024, is developing a mobile app with key features like an SOS alert system to quickly notify emergency contacts, a consent tracker to establish records of consent, and a resource hub connecting users to support services. For Womanhood has raised $8,400 through a variety of Washington University sources, like pitch competitions and grants.

The startup is working closely with Washington University’s in-house dev team, aiming to have the SOS alert functionality ready to demo at the April 11th event. With an imminent beta launch targeted for May, the April 11th recruitment event emerges as a key milestone for the young startup to provide safety solutions to female college students affected by partner violence.
