Phone blocker app FynCom just secured its first investor by raising $195,000 pre-seed from GoAhead Ventures. CEO Adrian Garcia tells the 4thEst8 the money will be used for research and expansion of its B2B efforts.
“We just received a safe note for $195,000. From GoAhead Ventures,” CEO Adrian Garcia told the 4thEst8. “We’re using that to just build out our business development arm… We’re doing a lot of customer discovery and sort of a standardized testing to see, you know, which industries respond most favorably to what we’re offering. And then whatever one they find most favorably of what we’re offering, that’s the one we’re going to go after”
The customer discovery research is expected to take about a month. The other project Garcia’s team is working on is getting the app ready for launch on the Apple App Store.
The four person startup has an Android app called KarmaCall that blocks phone spammers and robocalls – with a cryptocurrency twist. If the caller and receiver have the app and the caller puts up a micro-payment of Nano the call will get through. If the receiver hangs up quickly or rejects the call they keep the micro-payment for their inconvenience. FynCom takes a small cut for brokering the deal.
The Anaheim, California based company pitched to 1 Million Cups, St. Louis, in February. KarmaCall is on 22,000 phones in Brazil, a country with a very high incidence of phone solicitation.
