Clint Brauer, Greenfield Robotics CEO

“We have a new weed bot,” Greenfield Robotics CEO Clint Brauer told the 4thEst8 a couple weeks ago, on condition of a delayed release of this news. “We’ve been out testing all winter and running it in this thing, and it moves right along… at three and a half miles an hour, 15 to 18 hours a day… getting within two inches of plants.”

The new rig has a full suspension, all new motors and electronics, and a new drive system. It also has a protective shell and drive lights to operate at night. The autonomous robots work independently but are monitored by a Greenfield technician from a mobile lab. Brauer says technicians can run a ‘crew’ of 10 bots at once.

Founded in 2017, Greenfield Robotics of Cheney, Kansas is making small, autonomous robots that roam fields to cut weeds, eliminating the need for herbicidal chemicals. It’s a service that Brauer says turns weed eradication into a fixed cost rather than variable. The company was founded in 2017, has raised under $1 million in seed capital, and started putting its prototype robots into it’s first customer’s fields in the spring of 2021. It claims a dozen employees.

In May 2021 the 4thEst8 reported Jerry Poole was hired as CTO. Brauer says Poole stepped down from that position and now serves as an advisor.
