Founded in 2017, then relaunched in 2019, the two-person Kansas City startup Healthy Hip Hop blazed a trail of achievements through last fall, but now the founder declines to be interviewed, and may have moved to Atlanta, Georgia… according to his Twitter feed.
The online platform allows educators to stream music and video content to the classroom smartboard. The content supports their curriculum, primarily around exercise, and the company says it has an app that allows students to create their own content in a child-safe environment.
In Sept. 2021 the company closed a crowdfunding round on Republic, raising $77,360 — about 3x the floor of $25K, but not quite 14 percent of the ceiling of $1,070,000 founder and CEO Roy Scott set that February. According to their page on Republic, 250 people with a minimum investment of $100 received SAFE’s with a claimed $8M valuation cap.
In March of 2021 Scott announced a deal with the Dallas Independent School District to provide the children’s music/health platform to more than 70,000 students in a $500,000 paid Beta that, if renewed the following year, Scott said would jump to $1M. That is the last time Scott made himself available to bizblip (or predecessor, 4thEst8) for an interview, declining many requests.
