Sustain-A-Plate secured two pilot partnerships as test customers.

Franklin Taylor, Sustain a Plate CEO

“These partnerships will allow us to grow our business and demonstrate the value we provide,” CEO Franklin Taylor told bizblip.

Sustain-A-Plate is a web app and platform that tracks expiration dates of perishable products, notifying retailers so they can drop the price, donate the goods or do something to reduce waste and the financial loss it brings. The St. Louis company was founded in December 2023 and has two full time founder-employees.

One of the undisclosed pilots is a vertical farming company, where Sustain-A-Plate is helping track lettuce from ‘seeds to sale’ to prevent waste. Another partnership is with a local food retailer, assisting them in monitoring perishables throughout the store. Taylor highlighted that this particular retailer wastes around $41,000 worth of food annually despite only making $240,000 in revenue, underscoring the potential impact of Sustain-A-Plate’s solution.

The startup raised $22,500 through academic startup and pitch competitions.
