Public schools in Louisiana were just cleared to use state money to pay for the services of St. Louis EdTech startup, Top Tutors For Us.

Angelica Harris, Top Tutors For Us CEO

“It increases accessibility for schools and changes our marketing efforts, as schools aren’t as constrained,” CEO Angelica Harris told bizblip. “We’re able to reach our target users in disadvantaged communities and school districts.”

Top Tutors For Us is an online platform that matches Black and Brown high school students with culturally relevant tutors from top universities for standardized test preparation. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, and was founded in October 2022.

Approval came from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE),  opening the door for schools to write TTFU into grants or use their operating budgets.

Top Tutors For Us is mostly bootstrapped, aided by $10K from the Skandalaris Venture Competition at Washington University, St. Louis and $14K from the Diverse Business Accelerator.  The startup also received $75,000 for being in the 2023 cohort of Arch Grants.
