Verified Backups, a cloud storage and data protection startup, won its first pitch contest last night in St. Louis. The company emerged the winner out of 16 participants, securing a $400 prize.
“The recognition is really nice,” CEO Chris Marshall told bizblip. “It’s nice as a founder, when somebody likes your idea.”
Verified Backups provides cloud storage services to help businesses fight ransomware and prevent data loss. The company uses a patented technique to test customer backups daily, ensuring they are functional in case of a disaster. Founded in 2020, the business is primarily ran online and has over 28 repeat customers. Marshall serves as the CEO, with additional support from advisors who and part-time contractors who conduct research.
Verified Backups has been bootstrapped so far, with initial funding provided by Marshall and subsequent growth fueled by the business’ income. The $400 prize from the inaugural PitchSTL pitch contest will be used to assist a non-profit organization in need of backup services.
