Challenged with launching a viable startup in 54 hours, participants in the Columbia, MO Startup Weekend have been feverishly working on their projects since Friday afternoon… and the Sunday evening judging is only a few hours away. Team Five is a dating app for emotionally intelligent individuals.
“The problem is that all dating apps out there are heavily used by men, and there are not enough women out there and a lot of the times people are not satisfied with the matches they’re getting so we are designing an app specifically for emotionally intelligent individuals,” said Alena Gladkova, business development for Five. “Our main selling point is that you have to take an EQ test, and pass the test to join the app.”
The team sourced an emotional intelligence test that already existed. It creates a scenario and participants have to answer questions based on the scenario… rather than a true or false where it’s easily manipulated. They’re targeting Millennials, 25 and over, and as of noon Sunday the team was organizing a launch party to focus geographical density in users.
The original idea was an EQ badge, taking a test that you can take the results of to display on your existing data app
The name five is from the five main definitions of emotional intelligence: They are self awareness, self regulation, social skills, motivation and empathy. ‘
“We’re saying that by joining our app you have some acceptable version of those five things,” said Gladkova.
