Challenged with launching a viable startup in 54 hours, participants in the Columbia, MO Startup Weekend have been feverishly working on their projects since Friday afternoon… and the Sunday evening judging is only a few hours away. Team Goober is a safe child transportation service.

“The problem is that there are 25 million children enrolled in the k-12 education system and many parents with professions have trouble getting their kids to where they need to be on time and it causes stress on families,” said Mary Kruse, founder of team Goober. “We are going to have excellent customer service and our drivers are internally held to the highest of standards and have been vetted to see that they are excellent drivers, on the order of a school bus driver.”

Parents will have access to a lot of information about their specific driver, including a video serving as an introduction.. so parents have an idea of whom they are entrusting their child.

“The original idea was the same service but I wanted a baby monitor like camera in the car so parents could monitor the child, and background checks, but our pivots targeted a larger market and was more fleshed out. It’s also a subscription model for families and institutions,” said Kruse. “Originally it was only on demand.”
